Enamelware Serving Spoons

enamelware spoonsI have a special place in my heart for enamelware. It reminds me of the smalls pots and coffee cups my Grandmother used on the farm. And the design of these enamelware serving spoons from Crow Canyon fit the bill.

This flatware is a set of two 6-inch spoons that are oven, freezer and dishwasher safe. Two things to remember, they are metal inside so no microwave because cause they will spark (for that matter they might rust if you let them sit in water). And secondly that enamelware needs a little care, no smacking it around on pots and pans or it may chip. But that’s part of the down on the farm character.

Ann Carrington – “Devil’s Trumpet” Flatware Floral Sculpture

ann-carrington flatware“Bouquets and Butterflies” is a project by artist Ann Carrington. She is based in the UK and her work using standard cutlery to create beauty like this is astounding. Your standard fork, knife and spoon become works of art. A quote about the exhibit from her website:

August 2016 saw ‘Pop goes the Weasel!’ – a large retrospective exhibition of Ann’s work – open at the Royal College of Art, Kensington, London. The centerpiece of the exhibition, Devil’s Trumpet, a floral sculpture fashioned from cutlery, was acquired by the V & A for their collection and will be on permanent display in the Silver Gallery from October 2016.

“Giro” – Twisted Cutlery from Italy

giro cutlery“Giro” is from the Italian word for “turn” and is the driving thought behind this concept cutlery from UNStudio.

This flatware with a twist in the design affects how the cutlery is turned in your hand when finding the best position for use.

From their site:

“In the Giro cutlery set a twist originates from the point where the handle transforms into blade and graduates along the length of the utensils. A three finger concept for the holding and balance of the cutlery has been adopted in the design. The weight of the cutlery transfers from the lifting position to the position when in use, thereby supporting and balancing the utensils in both situations.”

The Giro cutlery family will consist of the following items: Tablespoon, Fork, Knife, Dessert fork, Dessert knife, Pastry fork, Coffee spoon,Teaspoon, Serving Spoon, Serving fork, Salad set, and Cake server.

Sadly still a concept and not for sale.

A Poutine Fork, an Ice Cream Spoon and a Knife in 14 Karat Gold

poutine fork in goldIt’s Canada Day and what could be more of a Canadian food than poutine? And how about some ice cream with that poutine? And how about a poutine fork, an ice cream spoon and a knife in either stainless steel or 14 karat gold plate?

Anneke van Bommel‘s Silhouette Cutlery Series is based on disposable options found at roadside snack stands or other venues of convenience, and van Bommel trades the single-use nature for a more elevated approach. The gold makes it pricey but the design and case are wonderful.
