Ann Carrington – “Devil’s Trumpet” Flatware Floral Sculpture

ann-carrington flatware“Bouquets and Butterflies” is a project by artist Ann Carrington. She is based in the UK and her work using standard cutlery to create beauty like this is astounding. Your standard fork, knife and spoon become works of art. A quote about the exhibit from her website:

August 2016 saw ‘Pop goes the Weasel!’ – a large retrospective exhibition of Ann’s work – open at the Royal College of Art, Kensington, London. The centerpiece of the exhibition, Devil’s Trumpet, a floral sculpture fashioned from cutlery, was acquired by the V & A for their collection and will be on permanent display in the Silver Gallery from October 2016.

You might not be able to visit the gallery or have missed the presentation, but check out the wonderful photos on her website:

Modern Gold Flatware Set by KitStuff

Modern Gold Flatware Set by KitStuffPeople sure do seem to really like the gold cutlery and it is only getting more and more popular over the last couple of years.

This is a setting for one person that consists of a knife, fork, soup spoon and teaspoon. It is made of  18/10 stainless steel but you want might to be careful with the dishwasher as it could lose some color. It seems they had some problem with the black but now use a powder coat that should hold of a lot better.

I must say the black and gold design is very striking and will make an impression on your diners with this flatware.

How Cutlery is made!

how cutlery is made

Something a simple as a spoon takes a lot of thought, design and energy. I’m sure the fork and knife take effort as well and there are a lot of knife making videos out there. But what it takes to create flatware has always fascinated me.

So it was pretty interesting to discover a page on a manufacturers website about how their stamped cutlery is made. That company is Eternum and they are:

“Eternum is a Belgian company created in 1924 and specialized in the creation, production and sale of stainless steel cutlery and tableware.”

It’s interesting to read how cutlery has been created for years.
