Fortessa Dragonfly 20-Piece Flatware Set

We’ve noticed a trend in “skinny” cutlery. Basically a long slender handled flatware seems to be the trend these days? And the Dragonfly 20-piece set by Fortessa is a good example of this. We haven’t looked at Fortessa before, they claim Fortessa tableware is used by over 70% of the Forbes Four and Five-Star Hotels in North America.

This 20 piece set consists of 4 each: table fork, salad/dessert fork, table knife, dessert/soup spoon, coffee/tea spoon. Of course it’s made of dish washer safe 18/10 stainless steel.  This is a truly full meal deal of cutlery that will cover all courses of a large meal. I really like the tiny fork and spoon!

And a cute little trademark stamp on each of them.

Bring Your Own Cutlery – BYOC

cutlery wasteWe here at The Cutlery Review have been talking about what we have named “Everyday Carry Cutlery” (ECC). The idea being that you have a handy portable and reusable set of flatware on your person in your backpack or purse. And if you check out the link you will see there are a lot of options out there. It’s handy, hygienic and good for the environment. Just say no to flimsy plastic forks.

So it’s interesting to see our friends over at TreeHugger.com write the article: Why “Bring Your Own Cutlery” needs to become a new trend. To quote them:

Most obviously, disposable plastic cutlery should be made illegal, which is precisely what France has done.”

That’s a pretty strong statement that we can get behind. We are seeing plastic grocery bags being banned all over the world, why not plastic cutlery?

WMF Nordic Flatware

WMF Nordic FlatwareWMF is a kitchenware (and more) company that was founded in Geislingen an der Steige Germany in 1853. And they seem to really have a good eye for cutlery design.

The Nordic Flatware set is made of a mirror polished and dishwasher safe 18/10 stainless steel. This is a 30 piece set with service for 6. The entire set includes six dinner knives, dinner forks, salad forks, dinner spoons and teaspoons.

I love the sleek design and that dinner knife has a great flair to it. And it’s a really good price too!

Yamazaki Aquatique ICE Cutlery

Yamazaki Aquatique ICE cutleryWe’ve looked at Yamazaki product’s before on this blog. They began making flatware in Tsubame, Japan in 1918. In the early 1930’s they were instrumental in the introduction of stainless steel into Japan.

So interestingly enough we have a Japanese company that has designed a European style cutlery set. The Aquatique ICE Cutlery set is a serving for one made of 5 pieces. The set includes a 7-inch salad fork, an 8-inch dinner fork, a 9-inch knife, an 8-inch soup spoon, and a 6-1/2-inch teaspoon

It is dishwasher safe 18/8 stainless steel with a lifetime warranty.
