Edible Spoon Maker

edible spoon makerWow, this is interesting. This is the stereotypical “Does what it says on the label”.

You take some off the shelf ready made dough (biscuit, puff pastry or whatever) and add to the “Edible Spoon Maker” and close it up. Let it bake for 3 minutes and you have four edible spoons for your enjoyment. This idea of consumable cutlery is pretty amazing and would be great for ice cream, yogurt, cereal or salads. And somewhat environmentally friendly I guess?

It’s basically a fancy waffle iron with a non-stick surface. This would be great in a restaurant or ice cream shop. Or in my home, but it’s not available for sale quite yet. You can sign up with their mailing list to be notified when it’s ready for sale.

CRUX Royal 40 Piece Flatware Cutlery Set by Bruntmor

Bruntmor CRUX Royal 40 Piece Flatware

Let me say this right off the top, Lifetime Warranty. And secondly, 18/10 stainless steel that will never rust .  This setting for eight consists of 8 Dinner Forks, 8 Teaspoons, 8 Knives, 8 Salad Forks and 8 Tablespoons. A very classic, solid design for a great price.

But about that statement “will never rust”. Anything will rust in the right conditions and you have to respect that. So they give the following guidelines:

Daily use of your Flatware keeps each piece bright and shiny. Below are some general guidelines to help you care for your sterling silver flatware:
• After each use, promptly wash or rinse your flatware with hot water and dry it.
• If you hand-wash your flatware, use a mild detergent.
• Do not leave your flatware sitting in water, as soaking can permanently damage the metal.
• Keep flatware and stainless steel flatware in separate baskets in the dishwasher.
• If you put the flatware in the dishwasher, keep detergent to a minimum, remove the flatware from the dishwasher before the dry cycle, and then dry items completely with a soft towel.
• Make sure your flatware is completely dry before you store it.
• If using daily: Store flatware in a moisture-free drawer.
• Do not wrap your flatware in rubber bands, plastic or newspaper, or in any material with a high sulfur content.

People, please read and follow these rules and avoid a disappoint.  In our house we never use the dry cycle in the dishwasher, it’s too hard on everything. Just open the door and let it dry naturally from the residual heat of the hot water. With a good rinse agent you won’t get spots, trust me.

Francis Bitonti Setae Flatware

Francis Bitoni FlatwareMany times we have covered concept designs for cutlery and every time it feels like I’m a kid again looking a flying cars or jet packs that we predicted for the future. Well we have a electric cars and water skis finally. So what about the amazing 3D printed flatware designs we keep seeing? When are they going into mass production and onto our dining room tables?

Francis Bitoni Studio uses 3D metal printing technology to create amazing cutlery in sterling silver. It’s called Setae Flatware with handles of four metal strands that intertwine gracefully to finish in a point. The spoons are interesting, the knife looks like an elfish sword, but the forks are an incredible organic design.

No sign of it being available to the public sadly. Maybe we have to wait for our own in-home 3D printer like Star Trek?

They describe the work very well on their website:

“Four independent strands cohere and separate creating a landscape of fibers nestled into the hand. The separation and cohesion of these long linear elements is used to produces local difference to beautifully satisfy the demands of a functional set of flatware.”

No, this isn’t silver but 18/0 stainless steel which places this set in any modest budget. The 20-piece flatware service for four consists of four dinner forks, salad forks, dinner spoons, teaspoons, and knives.

International Silver Carlisle Stainless Steel Flatware has a lifetime limited warranty. There have been some complaints above build up of crud in basket weave band on the handle and some rusting issues. This probably due to over crowding in the dishwasher. Please people, alternate cutlery up and down and keep them separated.
