Pott 22 – 5pc Setting – Cutlery by Carl Pott

Cutlery by Carl Pott

Pott was an old school classic German knife guy and then the company switched gears, here’s a quick bio:

“Carl Hugo Pott already was founded in 1904 in Solingen, the so-called knife-town (Klingenstadt) in which for 800 years the production of knives is located. Still today the cutlery companies Picard & Wielpütz, Carl Mertens, Paul Wirths and Zwilling J.A.Henckels are based in the small German town. The founder Carl Hugo Pott at first dealt in his of the workshop with the production of knife-blades of Damascus steel. With the entry of the son of the founder in 1932, Carl Pott, the family company changed to a cutlery manufacture.”

So from what I can tell it’s Carl Jr. who took the Pott company into cutlery. And he designed this amazing set of cutlery shown above called “Pott 22”. Here’s the very interesting story behind it’s design:

“Carl Pott got the idea for this design while sitting under a chestnut tree and watching a leaf fall. The organic shape became the inspiration for the spoon and the other flatware pieces were derived from it. The double edge knife has a serrated backside, ideal for carving into a piece of meat, while the other side is perfect for actual slicing. As the flatware of the 1972 Munich Olympics, the design became world famous.”

A double sided Dinner knife? Love that!

This 5 piece setting includes a Dinner fork, Dinner knife, Dinner spoon, Dessert fork and a Dessert spoon.
