Binging with Babish: Chef Carving Fork

Well, he’s finally done it. Babish has released his own version of the infamous Jon Favreau’s Carving Fork from the movie “Chef” full backstory in the link. That carving fork has really sparked the imagination of many chefs out there and I think it has something to do with the scene in the movie with Scarlett Johansson, but maybe it’s just me.

So here is the Babish version of the Chef movie carving fork:

It’s got a cute logo of his bald head on the butt of the fork. It’s nice celebrity branded cutlery. This 6.5″ Stainless Steel Carving Fork should be hand washed to prevent rusting. It’s a pretty good price. Here is where you can buy it from him:

The real Chef movie fork.

Babish has a tattoo of a carving fork and it’s neither the one from the movie or the one he is selling (check it out over here). Jon Favreau actually gave Babish the real original fork. But if you want the real version of the fork from the movie, then that would be the Calphalon Contemporary 2 Piece Carving Set which you can buy from here: https://amzn.to/2GAG1DZ (when it’s available)

Thanksgiving Turkey Lifter Forks

Thanksgiving Turkey Lifter Serving Set, Roaster Poultry Forks

Thanksgiving is upon us in both the USA and Canada though at different dates. We here at the Cutlery Review like to celebrate both. And at Thanksgiving it’s all about the big beautiful turkey. These would work well for a roast ham or duck or beef or whatever.

Rocaware makes this set of 2 stainless steel turkey lifters. They have long handles and 4 sharp prongs to hold the meats and the wide spread prongs make the turkey stable. Remember that “stable” means not dropping the turkey off the table, and ease up on the wine as well.

Made of dishwasher safe food grade 304 stainless steel these suckers are sharp pokey and dangerous ninja weapons so be careful!

A Very Long Spoon for Stanley

finessCity Longest Titanium Long Handled Spoon

This summer has been pretty good considering. And we here at the Cutlery Review have been able to get outdoors and do some backpacking and camping. One of the team bought himself the Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set, seen here:

Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set from Amazon

And it’s a great little cooking pot for boiling water and cooking stews or whatever. This thing is a classic for campers. But we ran into a problem when it came to cutlery when cooking in the Stanley. You see, Stanley here is about 11 inches tall and any normal spoon won’t reach the bottom and still have enough handle to keep your tender fingers away from the heat. A regular cooking spoon for use in pots is too big and tableware is too small. Talk about Goldilocks situation.

So we are looking at the finessCity Longest Titanium Long Handled Spoon. It’s 9.65 inches long and should do the trick. They claim its’ length is 1 inch Longer than any other Long Spoons available on Amazon. And that the polished bowl of Long Handle Spoon is bigger than any other Outdoor Spoon on Amazon. Made of 100% solid Titanium this backpacking long spoon is 0.9 oz/ 25.5gm in weight. And it comes with a Washable Premium Quality Waterproof Cloth Case. Waterproof and cloth? We’ll have to get back to you on that one.

Copper Scoop or Ladle or Spoon? AKA The Alice Waters Egg Spoon

Copper Scoop or Ladle or Spoon

Yes, that is a very long title for a blog post but I have a lot to say. First that this post brings me nothing but emotional and physical pain. Why you ask? Because my gallbladder hates me and I can’t eat eggs anymore. But that doesn’t mean I can’t talk about them.

So about 10 years ago there was a lot of hoopla about Alice Waters and her amazing new method of cooking an egg in a spoon over an open fire. She says this about it:

“I liked that feeling of watching it and holding it,” Ms. Waters said in a recent interview. “It’s not like cooking it in a pan. You just feel like you’re really in charge of it. It’s so elemental. It’s really primitive, in a way.”

You can read more at the NY Times article. And yes, she has a preferred spoon it seems. It’s the Rome’s 1024 Family Campfire Cast Iron Skillet with Steel and Wood Handle, 6-Inch from Amazon.

But to be honest, what got us digging around about metal spoons, ladles or scoops (use what name you prefer) was these copper ones pictured above. But first we did some research and whether frying in copper was ok. According to this article from Food52.com:

“And while we have you, a rumor we’d like to dispel: Copper is 100% safe to cook in, so long as it is lined with another, non-reactive metal (and most copper cookware is). Most commonly, you’ll find linings made of nickel, tin, or stainless steel.”

So we like these copper spoons that come as a set of four:

Small: 7. 5″L x 1. 5″W & . 5″ deep / Handle 6″ long
Medium: 9. 5″L x 2″W & . 75″ deep / Handle 7. 25″ long
Large: 10. 5″L x 2. 5″W & . 75″ deep / Handle 8″ long

And that way you aren’t just cooking eggs but can use it for all sorts of things.
