Fortessa Bistro Flatware Set

Fortessa Bistro Flatware Set

Here at the Cutlery Review we are big fans of Fortessa Flatware.

Fortessa tableware is used by over 70% of the Forbes Four and Five-Star Hotels in North America. Fortessa flatware is made from heavyweight 18/10 stainless steel, the highest quality available for flatware. The company Fortessa has a great backstory:

“Some of our happiest memories happen around the table – shared stories, savory meals, warm laughter. And sometimes, as was the case for brothers Scott and Eric Hamberger, devising a plan to follow their entrepreneurial passion and start a family business. So, in 1993 after finding inspiration in the quality and craftsmanship of fine German porcelain, the Hamberger brothers started importing and selling high quality dinnerware direct out of their parents’ garage.”

This new set “Fortessa Bistro” came to our attention recently. It has a simple elegance. Made of 18/10 dishwasher safe stainless steel this 20 piece set includes 4 each of a table fork, salad/dessert fork, table knife, dessert/soup spoon, and a coffee/tea spoon. The design features a banded cuff at the base and top of each handle.

Wooden Tasting Spoon

Louisiana Roux Spoon Tasting Spoon Pine

In our search for double ended spoons we came across this wooden tasting spoon. There is something about using wooden cutlery that just seems “right”. Flatware that is wooden feels better on the teeth, lips and tongue. And for tasting were it could be hot food, wood is better than hot metal.

This double ended wooden tasting spoon by Louisiana Roux Spoon seems to be just the thing: “Chefs of the South use this tool for tasting their seasoning adjustments while creating their cuisines. The Louisiana Tasting Spoon is 11 inches long and made of Southern Pine. To Use simply dip the larger spoon well into your sauce or broth tilting it ever so slightly, the hot liquid flows down the center channel cooling gathering into the smaller well making for the perfect taste.”

This whole tilting down the center channel idea is new to us and something we really want to try!

Joseph Joseph Uni-Tool 5-In-1 Utensil Slotted Solid Spoon Spatula Turner Slicer

Joseph Joseph Uni-Tool 5-In-1 Utensil Slotted Solid Spoon Spatula Turner Slice

We went looking for a “Double Ended Spoon”, don’t ask why. But this is what we found from our friends at “Joseph Joseph“, who make incredible stuff.

Made of nylon that is heat resistant up to 480 degrees F / 240 degrees C and is of course completely dishwasher safe. This isn’t just two spoons, it’s a slotted spoon, solid spoon, spatula, turner, and a cutting tool (see the serrations on the side of it?). This is a spoon, knife, scooper extravaganza of cutlery.

This is a multi-tasker worthy of the name. It’s great in the kitchen for working in Teflon pans and even better for camping and hiking!

Best Ramen Fork? Best Ramen Spoon? Scoon?

So much confusion here. Is the best choice for eating ramen chopsticks and a spoon? Or is it a fork? Or is it a spork? Or a Scoon?

Ramen-Fork-Spoon-Stainless-Steel-Museum-of-Modern-Art

Your first choice is this wonderful piece of cutlery that I would classify as a Foon from the Museum of Modern Art. The Ramen Fork/Spoon or Sugakiya spork is made from stainless steel and will handle all your Ramen eating needs. Made of dish-washer safe stainless steel it is 7 3/4″ long x 2″ wide x 1 1/2″ diameter.

Scoon

Your second choice is the “Scoon” which is available at most Asian product Dollar stores. It’s plastic, it has holes in it to act as a strainer. It’s cheap. It’s flimsy. It’s cute. We can’t seem to find a reliable source online to order it, sorry.

You decide. The Flatware Decision is yours.
