Top Chef added Cutlery Rests to their table

As reported at Delish.com the famous TV cooking competition show Top Chef introduced something new to the table for the first time in a long while.

“Top Chef added Dining Elevated’s ‘Uplifts’ to the table. The four- to six-inch rests give judges a place to put their forks, knives, and spoons in between bites while also adding a luxe look to the tables.”

“Flatware rests are a simple solution to prevent cross-contamination of foodborne pathogens from the tabletop to utensil, and thus, an added layer of consumer protection.”

I am a big fan of cutlery rests and have been making my own origami ones for chopsticks for years. The rests on Top Chef were a little boring. We discovered these charming cutlery and chopstick rests over at Amazon. They are made of dishwasher safe premium zinc alloy which is food-safe, lead-free and nontoxic. Woof!

Tiny Spoon – The Golden Smoke Shovel

The Golden Smoke Shovel

Happy 420! So here we have a tiny little spoon. It’s called the Golden Smoke Shovel. It is about 85 mm or 3.35 inches in length. Isn’t this curious cutlery?

It is described as being used for medicines, cigarettes, kitchens, etc. Or as a pipe shovel for smoking accessories. The best description by far is “Micro debugging spoon” because it would really help with my programming work.

You get three of them.

But what is it really to be used for?

You decide.

Hanging Flatware by Supreme Housewares

Hanging Flatware by Supreme Housewares

We have a set of hanging cutlery in our house that comes in quite handy. Where we use it the most is for picnics or buffet style dining. You just drop it in the middle of the table and if someone needs to butter a bun then there is a knife. Need a spoon for the relish? Right there on the flatware tree, pick it yourself. But we warned most stands are a little tippy as the base isn’t heavy enough but we still find it better than a handful of cutlery in a jar or something.

This hanging flatware by Supreme Housewares includes 4 dinner spoons, 4 dinner forks, 4 dinner knives, 4 salad forks, 4 teaspoons, and one stand. The cutlery and stand are made of stainless steel.

Alessi “Eat. It” Flatware Set

Alessi "Eat. It" Flatware Set

The folks at Alessi sure do have a great collection of cutlery by some very talented designers.

The “Eat. It” flatware designed by Wiel Arets has a interesting concept. The idea is that all the tableware (in particular the knife, fork and spoon) can be stacked upon each other nicely. This lends for a minimalist setting at the table.

This setting for one consists of a table spoon, table fork, table knife, dessert fork, tea/coffee spoon and are made of 18/10 stainless steel.
