Gourmet Settings Handmade Montana Flatware

Gourmet Settings Handmade Montana 20 Piece Flatware SetYup, another post on black cutlery. It really seems black colored flatware is this year’s big trend, where as last year I think it was copper. Maybe next year it will be pink?

This tableware from Gourmet Settings is called “Handmade Montana” and is a black finish heat forged 18/10 stainless steel. I really like the handmade look. They claim it is dishwasher safe but I would worry about losing the finish and possibly rust if they touch while in the washer.

The 20 piece set  includes 4 dinner knives, 4 dinner forks, 4 salad forks, 4 teaspoons and 4 tablespoons.

Hampton Forge Skandia Totem in Metallic Black

Hampton Forge 16 Piece Skandia TotemSo, coloring flatware something other than silver is quite the thing. People like seeing cutlery in gold and copper but not made of gold and copper. And everyone really likes black cutlery these days it seems. One way is anodizing the metal which works pretty good but will scratch and wear off eventually. But here is a new method I hadn’t considered, resin coating.

Hampton Forge has this 16 piece set called Skandia Totem that is resin coated in metallic black on 18/0 Stainless steel. The set consists of 4 dinner forks, 4 dinner knives, 4 dinner spoons, and 4 teaspoons. They state it is to be hand washed only and I’m not surprised as a dishwasher would certainly cause delamination. Reviews are mixed but it’s a nice looking set at a good price.

Modern Royal 24-Pieces Rose gold Stainless Steel Flatware

Modern Royal 24-Pieces Rose gold Stainless Steel FlatwareGold and copper finishes in cutlery are very popular right now. And this flatware set from Aoosy combines both, as it were. They call their finish “Rose Gold” and it’s made from stainless steel 18/2 with a titanium rose gold plate. They say it’s like copper silverware, but not copper silverware. Which to me speaks about the fact that it isn’t silverware priced.

This is a service for six that includes a tablespoon, fork, knife and teaspoon. It is dishwasher safe but they have some pretty specific washing instructions that I find interesting: “Use neutral detergent to flush it ,Pls never use strong alkaline or strong oxidizing chemicals wash them , such as baking soda, bleaching powder, sodium hypochlorite.”. My translation is, hand wash them. Plate flatware never does well in a dishwasher.

Cooper Cutlery by Oneida

Cooper by OneidaI was reading a great article on flatware over at TotalFood.com and saw mention of this cutlery with a hole in it. Oneida, who we all know and love, has this great set with a pierced handle.

This 20 piece set is a service for 4 with salad fork, dinner fork, dinner knife, dinner spoon and teaspoon. They say the design is fashioned after traditional copper cookware. The holes in the handles are perfect for hanging up your cutlery (handy on a boat or RV) but the rivets on the back are fake gratefully. It has a brushed finish and is dishwasher safe 18/0 stainless steel. And the usual Oneida limited lifetime warranty.
