Cutlery Coat Hooks

cutlery coat hooksMy wonderful wife sent me this picture and I have no idea where it came from. Anyone got a photo credit for this?

It is a great idea to turn old forks into cutlery coat hooks. I like that it could not only hold coats but if you bent out the fork tines a little they could hold car keys or hats as well. Maybe spoons would work better for hats, don’t want to stab yourself on a fork tine.

All you need is some old cast cutlery (not stamped) and a hammer and drill. Fun weekend project that I will have to try.

Make Eating a Video Game with Interactive Cutlery

I can’t believe I just wrote that title to this post. Technology is about to change the way we used to use a fork as an airplane to convince the kids to eat.

A team from Argentina called Wunderman has introduced Yumit, an interactive set of flatware that can turn eating into points used for video games on smartphones, tablets and consoles.  Every fork or spoon full is turned into energy as a sensor weighs meals and sends data on the amount of food eaten to an accompanying app. The place setting is made from anti-slip materials with rounded edges to make it child-friendly and easy to hold. Each set includes a place mat, knife, fork and spoon. The cutlery is made of stainless steel and plastic with silicone grips.

It’s only available for pre-order at this time. I’m curious to see what the reaction by parents to this is. Check out the video above for a demo or click the link below for their site.

Everyday Carry Cutlery – humangear Gobites Trio

humangear-GoBites-Travel-TrioWe are big fans around here of Everyday Carry Cutlery. Whether for camping, at school or the office, it sure comes in handy. This set of travel flatware from “humangear” is pretty fancy stuff.

It comes in a very slim and small carrying case and consists of a extended-length spoon, fork, and knife (which they claim actually cuts). But wait there’s more! It also includes a wedge/pointed toothpick. The BPA-free nylon material has a lifetime warranty.

But one last thing, the knife has a metal re-enforced bottle opener as well. Pretty slick.

A Digital Spoon Scale by Admetior

Admetior Digital Spoon ScaleThe concept of this spoon makes so much sense to me. For baking especially this spoon makes measuring small amounts much easier. If you need 60 ounces then you take 6 ten ounces scoops. Just some basic math and you don’t need a full size scale to get the right weight. And don’t get me started on why American uses volume instead of weight in baking!

This cool digital spoon scale from Admetior measures in ounces (oz) and grams (g) both, up to 10-ounces per scoop.  It will do the math for you up to 105 ounces using the Accumulative feature.
The scoop is detachable for easy cleaning.

It also has a “Hold and Tare” function. Pressing the Tare button will reset the displayed weight on the scale back to zero. The Tare button can also be used to measure multiple items in the same container. Simply add you first item, note the weight, press Tare and you are ready to weigh your next item. Good for mixing different spice in the spoon to one final weight.
