Dessert Pastry Forks from Portmeirion

dessert forksI made a bad pun in a recent post about desert spoons as people were deserting the use of them. Even more rare is the dessert fork, but I did come across this wonderful set.

The old school charm, packaging and presentation is what really caught my eye. The flowers are hand-painted on white ceramic handles and are 30 individual floral and butterfly designs. Complete with a stainless steel fork head and dishwasher safe (but I would hand wash) in gift box they present well. Mother’s Day is coming up and this would be a great gift.

3D Printed Custom Cutlery from Shapeways

3d printer cutleryOK, this stuff gets me excited. We have finally reached a point in the advancement of 3d printing technology that we can design and have printed custom cutlery designs. There are still limitations in size and definitely in materials. Printing in plastics runs around $7 per piece where as steel can be around $33 a piece. But last year at this time this wasn’t even really a possibility as there were no food safe materials and the size of the piece that could be made was too small.

Shapeways is a service that allows you to upload your 3d designs and have them created or allow others to order your designs to be printed for them. The design above is from lucaCavannaDesign is called 3xone and is very unique with a lot of thought in it’s design. It uses less material (cheaper), is structurally sound and they nest together. Check out their page at Shapeways for more images of this intelligent 3d custom cutlery design.

Wonderland Cutlery

wonderland cutleryTina Tsang from England has hand crafted these pewter cutlery delights based on characters from Alice in Wonderland. Each piece has a magnifying glass inserted into the head of the character to allow you to see your food more carefully or read a menu or any fine print. This definitely would be big in Japan. Hand wash of course. Rather expensive at  £42.50 per piece of flatware. But it’s more than just cutlery, it’s art!

Oversized Decorative Cutlery – It’s a really big spoon!

oversized decorative cutlerySometimes your spoon can be too big like this poor guy. And sometimes you’d like a large set of cutlery for your kitchen or dining room. To be honest, my kitchen has no room for something like this, I think it’s best for a restaurant. But if you want a really big set of oversized decorative cutlery then this is probably right up your alley. This fork, knife and spoon metal silverware set are 23 inches long and ready for mounting on the wall.
