Communicate with Cutlery

There has been a lot of press lately about how to communicate with your cutlery to the kitchen and serving staff at a restaurant. Supposedly the idea is that various ways of leaving the flatware on your plate will tell them how you liked your meal or whether or not you are done.

In all honesty, I’m not too sure about any of this. Leaving your fork and knife in special configurations isn’t exactly the most effective way of communicating. How about you speak to the server, like a normal person?

Haas Brothers Cutlery – The George II set

This is some weird looking cutlery to say the least. Simon and Nikolai Haas (the Haas Brothers) created this unique flatware for art collector George Lindemann Jr.

This set consists of 144 knives, forks and spoons and are cast as whole. They each feature a four-digit paw with tiny claws on the end of the handle.

One of the brothers Nikolai Haas has this to say about the workL “Initially it was a relatively frustrating commission because we were like ‘fck, cutlery is hard as sht’,”

How do you organize your Cutlery Drawer?

cutlery drawer organizeThe Internet is alight with fevered discussions about how to organize your cutlery drawer. The picture above shows something we have never thought of. It’s a great way to fit two different sized spoons into the same spot. But the discussion continues on whether the forks go on the left or this question: “Hold up, do you place the head of the cutlery towards the drawer handle or the back of the drawer?”. So where do your forks, knives and spoons go to sleep? And what about all the other kitchen stuff?
