Making a Better Spoon with Gastrophysics

The folks over at BBC made this interesting little video about using the science of “gastrophyics” to create new cutlery. Not sure if gastrophyics is a real science, but this is a cool spoon. Now how about a new fork with magic never slip tines?

Modern Royal 24-Pieces Rose gold Stainless Steel Flatware

Modern Royal 24-Pieces Rose gold Stainless Steel FlatwareGold and copper finishes in cutlery are very popular right now. And this flatware set from Aoosy combines both, as it were. They call their finish “Rose Gold” and it’s made from stainless steel 18/2 with a titanium rose gold plate. They say it’s like copper silverware, but not copper silverware. Which to me speaks about the fact that it isn’t silverware priced.

This is a service for six that includes a tablespoon, fork, knife and teaspoon. It is dishwasher safe but they have some pretty specific washing instructions that I find interesting: “Use neutral detergent to flush it ,Pls never use strong alkaline or strong oxidizing chemicals wash them , such as baking soda, bleaching powder, sodium hypochlorite.”. My translation is, hand wash them. Plate flatware never does well in a dishwasher.

Cooper Cutlery by Oneida

Cooper by OneidaI was reading a great article on flatware over at TotalFood.com and saw mention of this cutlery with a hole in it. Oneida, who we all know and love, has this great set with a pierced handle.

This 20 piece set is a service for 4 with salad fork, dinner fork, dinner knife, dinner spoon and teaspoon. They say the design is fashioned after traditional copper cookware. The holes in the handles are perfect for hanging up your cutlery (handy on a boat or RV) but the rivets on the back are fake gratefully. It has a brushed finish and is dishwasher safe 18/0 stainless steel. And the usual Oneida limited lifetime warranty.
