Rich Forks – Stolen Cutlery from the Rich and Famous

Prince Harry Used Fork“The Rich Forks” is an interesting art project by Australian artist Van Thanh Rudd. For fifteen years he has been stealing cutlery from the rich and famous.  To quote from his website:

“Endless high quality food and drink, silver service and luxury hotel rooms adorn the daily routines of the idle rich these days more than ever. It’s no surprise that this occurs when only 62 people own as much wealth as the poorest 3.6 billion people on this planet. Luxury items including 5/6 star hotel food and wine is always at the finger tips of the extremely wealthy. And they don’t lift a finger when it comes to washing the silverware, setting the tables or cooking the exorbitantly priced food.”

So he successfully stole flatware from rich people to make a pretty serious point. He had access I think because he is the nephew of the former Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd. And he stole from a interesting list of people like Prince Harry, Hillary Clinton, Rupert Murdoch and others.

Deadpool Cutlery Knife Block

deadpool knife blockI laughed so hard I was stomping my feet in the theater watching the movie “Deadpool”. It’s a very crude, immature and over the top super hero movie. And someone has decided that a Deadpool Knife Block makes perfect sense. It does to me. Cunning cutlery indeed.

Britt Michelsen who is a Chemical Engineer in Hamburg, Germany used modelling software and a 3D printer to create this amazing knife block. Now personally I would have added a serving spoon to gag him with and a couple of forks into the eyes to round out the flatware torture, but that’s just me.

Sadly, not available for sale, probably not licensed by Marvel. But if you have a good 3D printer you can make one yourself.

MOOD by Christofle – Cutlery Caddy Video

Mood by Christofle is a 24-piece silver plated flatware set with storage capsule. This is a place setting for six people. And I have to say this is the coolest promotional video for cutlery that I’ve ever seen. This is exciting and creative and about cutlery, who’d have thunk?

Not much I can say more than what the video shows you, other than it’s $1000 USD.

Francis Bitonti Setae Flatware

Francis Bitoni FlatwareMany times we have covered concept designs for cutlery and every time it feels like I’m a kid again looking a flying cars or jet packs that we predicted for the future. Well we have a electric cars and water skis finally. So what about the amazing 3D printed flatware designs we keep seeing? When are they going into mass production and onto our dining room tables?

Francis Bitoni Studio uses 3D metal printing technology to create amazing cutlery in sterling silver. It’s called Setae Flatware with handles of four metal strands that intertwine gracefully to finish in a point. The spoons are interesting, the knife looks like an elfish sword, but the forks are an incredible organic design.

No sign of it being available to the public sadly. Maybe we have to wait for our own in-home 3D printer like Star Trek?

They describe the work very well on their website:

“Four independent strands cohere and separate creating a landscape of fibers nestled into the hand. The separation and cohesion of these long linear elements is used to produces local difference to beautifully satisfy the demands of a functional set of flatware.”
