Cocktail Spoon aka The Bar Spoon

Hiware Cocktail Shaker Spoon

This is the final entry in our “Different Types of Spoons”  series and last but not least it’s the “Cocktail Spoon” aka the Bar Spoon.

A bar spoon is a long-handled spoon used in bartending for mixing and layering of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic mixed drinks. Its length ensures that it can reach the bottom of the tallest jug or tumbler to mix ingredients directly in the glass. A bar spoon holds about 5 millilitres of liquid (the same as a conventional teaspoon). Its long handle is similar to an iced tea spoon, but is usually decorative and elegant – some variations mimic large swizzle sticks, with a disc at one end. The shaft is typically thin and threaded so that the fingers can easily grip and rotate the spoon. –https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_spoon

OK, we are finishing strong here with this famous flatware as the design really is a timeless classic. And it’s multifunction as a stirrer, spooner and masher.

You can’t go wrong with the Hiware Cocktail Shaker Spoon. It’s 12 inches of 18/10 stainless steel which will elegantly mix or mash anything. You name, it will mix it. We’ve learned in our house it’s really good for getting that last gerkin pickle out of the jar!

Amuse Bouche Spoon

Pulp Tek Compostable Tasting Spoons

This is the eighth in our “Different Types of Spoons”  series and it’s time for the “Amuse Bouche Spoon”.

The “Amuse Bouche” is a small single bite hors d’oeuvre. The term Amuse Bouche is French and means “mouth amuser”. Therefore a “Amuse Bouche Spoon” is usually a small ceramic or metal spoon that can be used to serve an amuse bouche. One piece of cutlery for one mouthful of fun.

Now with the Amuse Bouche Spoon being only used once at the table we really don’t want to see it being something that is a disposable plastic product. Which most of them are sadly! But we did find a recyclable flatware option.

The Pulp Tek Compostable Tasting Spoons really seem to be the way to go. They are made from “bagasse” (which is a word we just learned), that is actually repurposed sugarcane fibers. The spoons are grease-resistant, freezer-safe, and microwavable safe. Throw them in the compost or your garden afterwards!

They come in a pack of 100 disposable tasting spoons that each are 4.25 inches long and 2 inches wide and can hold up to 0.5 ounces.

To us, the tear drop spoon shape is classic cutlery but many other shapes and sizes are available.

Dessert Spoon

FOXAS Ice Cream Spoons

This is the seventh in our “Different Types of Spoons”  series and next up is the Dessert Spoon. If there is a special piece of cutlery designed just for getting sweet treats to my mouth, then I want the Dessert Spoon!

A dessert spoon is a spoon designed specifically for eating dessert and sometimes used for soup or cereals. Similar in size to a soup spoon (intermediate between a teaspoon and a tablespoon) but with an oval rather than round bowl, it typically has a capacity around twice that of a teaspoon.

By extension, the term ‘dessert spoon’ is used as a cooking measure of volume, usually of 10ml or 0.4 fl oz. – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dessert_spoon

So there’s the rub, there difference between any other spoon and a Dessert Spoon is the oval rather that round bowel and the capacity. Bigger spoon means more treat and oval means it will fit in your mouth better.

And today we thought we’d look at Ice Cream spoons in particular because really they can handle any dessert flatware situation. The FOXAS Ice Cream Spoons really have a shovel look that speaks to us.

This set of six spoons is made of 304 food grade 18/8 stainless steel which is dishwasher safe and sterilizer safe. They are 5.71″ long by 1.18″ wide (14.5 * 3CM).

Great for ice cream, yogurt, puddings, cake are whatever dessert you want to eat!

Salad Spoon

AIDEA Salad Spoon

This is the sixth in our “Different Types of Spoons” series and next up is the Salad Spoon. To quote the Simpsons: “You don’t make friends with salad!”. Hmmm…that really doesn’t make sense here now does it?

Salad spoon (plural salad spoons)
A large and long-handled spoon for stirring and mixing salads, made of wood or other material not affected by vinegar. – https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/salad_spoon

Let’s break that definition down. It need to be large, long and not affected by vinegar. So no metals please. Wood is the right choice here. And besides metal makes to much noise. No one wants loud cutlery.

The AIDEA Salad Spoon set seems to be the right choice here. This 12 inch (that’s long and long) and wooden (vinegar safe) spoon set ticks all the boxes. Made of 100% hard acacia wood that is vinegar safe but NOT dishwasher, microwave, freezer or oven safe! Scrub the spoon down and then give a light coating of cooking oil to keep the wood in good condition and they should last for a long time.
