Personalized Cutlery from the “Cutlery Commission”

Normally I would save this posting for around Christmas time as it contains the most wonderful ideas for gifts. But you know, gift giving can be anytime of year. “Cutlery Commission” has taken the simple idea of stamping letters into cutlery and turned them into creative personal gifts or items for the home. The bottle opener shown above is one of my favorites and will surprise the beer connoisseur in your family when they sit down to find it at their place setting for the first time.

The cutlery used is silver plated brass and should hold up quite well. Hand crafted and unique for you, so don’t go throwing it in the dishwasher please, wash by hand. All sorts of spoons, knives and forks can be created.

BTW – Being a bit of a champagne snob, please don’t believe that a spoon in the bottle keeps the bubbles fresh. It’s an old wives’ tale.

How to rest the wooden spoon

It’s the traditional monday fun today and this is actually informative if you didn’t already know it. This method of keeping your dripping wooden spoon over the pot works well for wooden spoons but not metal (they get too hot) or plastic (they will melt).

Pizza Week – Steel Pizza Cutter

It’s Pizza Week here at The Cutlery Review, we are reviewing kitchen utensils that are related to pizza. And in my opinion we have saved the best for last. The not so traditional but ever-so practical steel pizza cutter. Yup, just a big hunk of metal with a handle rolled into the top. Simple and elegant.

Pros: Easy to use, safe, won’t damage cutting board, multi-tasker, won’t push pizza toppings away from itself, makes a great dicer and cutting board scraper.

Cons: It’s big, need professional sharpening.

Pizza Week – Steel Pizza Knife

It’s Pizza Week here at The Cutlery Review, we are reviewing kitchen utensils that are related to pizza. Next up is something that is a little more serious and at the level of a restaurant tool. The steel pizza knife is much more traditional in pizza restaurants and works a lot quicker.

Pros: fast, sharp, easy to use due to leverage, little damage to cutting boards, a multi-tasker than can be used for almost anything.

Cons: dangerously sharp, big and hard to store, needs sharpening, kinna scary.

The American Metalcraft PPK17 Stainless Steel Pizza Knife is 18 inches long and has a POM handle. It can cut any size width or depth of pizza and is very versatile. I find the best place to store it is with the pizza stone in between my stove and kitchen cabinet.
