How to Choose Cutlery – Advice from Creators

The Wirecutter has always been an amazing website for product reviews and advice. I was a little worried when the NY Times bought them but they continue to be wonderful.

They have an amazing page called “How to Choose Flatware According to the People Who Design and Make It” and boy oh boy does it cover everything. If you are looking to buy cutlery or just want to learn more about the construction this is the site for you.

Morsel Spork – For Camping and Lunch

We are big fans of BYOC (Bring Your Own Cutlery) around here. And now with the “new normal” having your own personal clean cutlery seems to make even more sense.

The morsel Spork which they title as a “Camping and Backpacking Lunch Gear Accessory” is a 5 in 1 Cutlery item. It functions as a spoon, fork, knife(ish) and spatula with rubber edge.

There is the Regular in red at 7.5 inches and the XL in blue at 10.5 inches. The XL is great for reaching to the bottom of those pesky MREs or dehydrated food pouches.

It’s USA Made BPA free and dishwasher safe.

The rubber edge and angle of the design really makes it look like it would be perfect for getting that last little bit of Nutella out of the jar.

Knork Black Matte Titanium Stainless Cutlery Set

Back in 2015 Oprah Winfrey had her list of favorites and included this black matte titanium cutlery set from Knork. We have looked at Knorf’s Knife and Fork combo in a past post, and it’s seems they have dropped focus on the spork gimmick for a more robust product.

The Knork Black Matte Titanium Coated Stainless 20-Piece Set as shown above is using the strength of their patented design. This hand forged 20 piece black silverware with service for 4 set includes 4 each of dinner knife, dinner fork, salad fork, soup spoon and teaspoon.

Interestingly they list the flatware item weights:
Dinner Fork: 7.625” 78 g
Salad Fork: 6.75” 65 g
Dinner Knife: 9” 95 g
Teaspoon: 6.75” 75 g
Tablespoon: 7.625” 90 g

They claim to be dishwasher safe 18/0 stainless steel but ask you don’t use lemon or citrus scented detergent. I’m assuming they are concerned the citric acid could remove the titanium coated finish. In particular they call out Finish brand: “Using a non-citrus stainless steel liquid detergent is recommended, as any powders or pacs tend to be abrasive or harsh and can ruin the finish if they are not dissolved properly. This includes especially the Finish brand tabs with the red power balls in the middle, which seem to be the hardest to dissolve.”

Back in black! LIANYU is having great success with this 20-piece stainless steel black flatware cutlery set for 4 people.

This 20 piece flatware set include four each of a Dinner Spoon, Dinner Fork, Dinner Knife, Salad/Dessert Fork, and Teaspoon. It is all packaged in a nice box suitable for gifting.

The wonderful black sheen is due to Vacuum Electroplating technology on stainless steel. And they claim dishwasher safe but be careful with high acid/citric cleaners and letting them slam into each other in the dishwasher. Be warned this could cause loss of the finish and rusting. This is a nice set of cutlery that needs care and attention to last.
